As punishment for endangering the free world, LTCM's posse of academics and Nobel laureates was disbanded and scattered throughout Wall Street to again work for the overlords (i.e. JP Morgan, Salmon Smith Barney, Goldman Sachs), except for John Meriwether who is now running a new hedge fund: JWM Partners. Several other LTCM alumni teach, lecture, and consult. Given the exceptional opportunity they all had to bring financial markets to a halt, it would be interesting to know if they wake up in the morning feeling mighty; do they secretly giggle to themselves? When they were standing on the edge of financial collapse, were these academics curious about alternate realities where there was no orderly rescue? Curious enough to consider making the leap? Curious enough to do it all over again?
